Teachers’ Workshop Day, Sunday, September 7

Text Box: To: Seventh-Grade (and other) Teachers1, Home-School Parents, Principals, and Superintendents:
Teachers are invited to attend our (free) pre-Faire renaissance training workshops offered on three weekends to our personnel and the general public, starting August 9th at the Casa de Fruta site. For a schedule, see www.norcalrenfaire.com. (Note: youth and adults desiring weekend employment or volunteer opportunities during Faire should attend at least two days.)
We are also contacting you about an additional opportunity for administrators, teachers, and home-school parents. On Sunday, September 7 th, we are offering our second annual special workshop day for teachers at no charge at the Faire. Our purpose is to acquaint teachers and administrators with the kinds of hands-on learning that can be adapted to suit their students and help them meet state standards for education. The Teachers’ Workshop Day will be led by credentialed teachers and other specialists in renaissance history, culture, arts, hand crafts, trades, and lifestyles, starting at 9:00 a.m..
The NorCal Renaissance Faire produces the second oldest renaissance re-enactment production in the U.S. The original faire was founded by an educator and has been in continuous operation for 41 years. Before relocating to Hollister/Casa de Fruta, we offered educational workshops to schools, teachers, and other organized groups during the Faire season. In 2007 we began the process for forming a non-profit educational organization allowing us to resume our school workshop program in 2008. Called Past-Times, the school program has already scheduled middle school students from San Jose; dates are still available for other schools and home-school groups.  Community service opportunities are also available for individual high school and college students to spend a day at the Faire.
We recognize the importance of the state education standards and your desire to achieve these objectives with motivating learning opportunities. The Teachers’ Workshop day on September 7th will be worthwhile in terms of content-specific

information about standards-based program experiences, hands-on learning and skill-building, and demonstrating education standards applications while also being an  enjoyable day at the Faire.

To make if possible for educators to attend, each teacher/administrator will receive free admission for him- or herself and a friend. The day will combine a seminar and discussion about standards and curricular program (including handouts), refreshments, a village culture tour by docents, attendance at the joust (an excellent educational event!), choice of  demonstration workshops, free time to “do” the Faire, and a session on custom and dress in the period. We will also discuss ways to support student project assignments that may  be completed when attending the Faire with parents.

On the 7th, we will meet outdoors on the Faire site located on route 152 near the Casa de Fruta RV Park (free parking past gate 6). Dress is casual, comfortable shoes are recommended, and participants should plan to bring or buy their lunch and beverage.  Guests should meet at the ticket booth at 8:45 a.m. so the group can be escorted to our             meeting location before the Faire opens.

Reservations are required! To reserve space or inquire further about our offer, please call me at 650-504-1572 (cell) or email at mglancy@coastside.net I am happy to answer questions and make arrangements to accommodate you and your teachers.

            Sincerely,
